Five Sample IQ Questions

Practice items in the style of the test, so you know what to expect. They are not part of the scored test.

1 / 5

What comes next?

3, 6, 11, 18, 27, ?

Show answer

Answer: B (38). The gaps grow by 2 each time: +3, +5, +7, +9. The next gap is +11, so 27 + 11 = 38.

2 / 5

What comes next?

5, 10, 8, 16, 14, ?

Show answer

Answer: C (28). Two rules take turns: double, then subtract 2. After 14 comes doubling: 14 × 2 = 28.

3 / 5

What comes next?

Show answer

Answer: B. The arrow turns 45° clockwise at every step. After pointing right, it points down and to the right.

4 / 5

Which figure is the odd one out?

Show answer

Answer: D. Every other figure is made of straight sides only. The circle has none.

5 / 5

Which number is missing?

2 → 5   3 → 10   4 → 17   6 → ?

Show answer

Answer: B (37). Each number is squared, then 1 is added: 2 → 5, 3 → 10, 4 → 17. So 6 × 6 + 1 = 37.

How scoring works

Harder questions weigh more. The result lands on the standard IQ scale, 100 average and 15 points per standard deviation, through a fixed conversion, so you can set it next to any other IQ figure you know.

What a 20-minute test is

A screening estimate, not a clinical assessment. Good for knowing where you stand and for practising; not a substitute for a supervised test, and not accepted as one by Mensa or employers.

Who is behind it

An independent, self-funded Dutch company with no ad network behind the results. The IQ test is free and needs no account; we only ask for your email when you buy the full result.

Common Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our free IQ tests, scoring methodology, and cognitive assessments.

Our eight assessments are free online alternatives to clinical instruments such as the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS); they are not those tests and are not affiliated with their publishers. One of them follows the Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC) model of cognitive abilities. Each test evaluates distinct cognitive domains — such as memory, logic, problem solving, focus, and processing speed — using carefully calibrated questions. Scores are placed on the standard IQ scale (mean 100, standard deviation 15) by a fixed conversion curve, and your result page also shows how you compare with the other people who have taken the same test here. While no online test is a substitute for a full clinical evaluation by a licensed psychologist, your result gives a clear indication of where you stand, not a diagnosis.

The test is free, and so is your result range: straight after the test you see whether you score below average, average, above average or higher, without signing up. Your exact IQ score, percentile, full report and certificate are a one-time payment with no subscription. You decide after the test, and we only ask for your email if you buy.

Take a timed test that measures several abilities, such as logic, memory and pattern recognition. An online test like our IQ test gives an estimate; only a test supervised by a psychologist gives a formal measurement. How IQ tests work explains the difference.

No. An IQ of 120 is well above average: on the standard scale (mean 100, standard deviation 15) it is about the 91st percentile, higher than roughly 9 in 10 people. “Genius” is not a category on any IQ test. See what an IQ of 120 means and what counts as a good IQ score.

Yes. The test is free and needs no sign-up: you see your score range straight after the last question, without giving an email address. Your exact score, percentile and full report are one payment, with no subscription.

The standard IQ test has 25 questions. You get 45 seconds per question, so the whole test takes under 20 minutes. A question you do not answer in time counts as wrong and the next one appears. Finish it in one sitting.

Your answers travel over an encrypted connection and we never sell your personal information. You can ask for a copy of your data or have it deleted at any time, as the GDPR allows.

Yes — retake any test unlimited times and track your progress over time. We recommend waiting at least 30 days between IQ test retakes for the most meaningful comparison.

Unlike short online quizzes, our test measures five distinct cognitive domains and places you on the standard IQ scale. Your score range and strongest abilities are free; the exact score, percentile and a full cognitive profile with personal advice are one optional payment.
